Charity Auction for Youth Mentoring Program Announced

Long Island Youth Mentoring is hosting it's 25th anniversary charity auction to support at risk youth with their mentoring program, pen pal prison ministry and one-on-one after school tutoring program.

Deer Park, New York (PRWEB) September 7, 2006 -- The charity auction hosted by Long Island Youth Mentoring at the Brookville Country Club on October 21, 2006 is an annual event attended by some of Long Island's most influential philanthropic couples which yearly generates more than $250,000 for this important organization.

The program will highlight the story of Long Island Youth Mentoring's 25 years of helping troubled children on Long Island while assisting other organizations around the world to duplicate their proven methods. It will feature stories of kids and honor special people who have made significant contributions to further this important work. Victor and Laura Scognamiglio, Ed Grilli, and Jack Crabtree will be three of those who will be honored.

One of the women who will speak will share her personal experience with drug addiction and how it landed her in jail. That is where Long Island Youth Mentoring met her. She will explain how she has recovered from the hopelessness of addiction and how this program was used by God to give her hope and new life direction. She is currently in college with the dream of being on the staff of Long Island Youth Mentoring. The main events will be outstanding food, great music and a lively auction. It will be a memorable evening for all.

Highlights of past auctions have been tickets to performances at the Tilles Center, Mickey Mantle signed Baseball Jersey, Sports memorabilia from Yogi Berra and other baseball greats, holiday Gift Baskets, Alex Rodriguez signed jersey, Derek Jeter game used bat, footballs signed by the 1969 New York Jet's, Kurt Warner, Kerry Collins and Wayne Chrebet, estate jewelry, antiques, a Family Portrait session, a week - luxury vacations, a sunset Yacht cruise, an airplane ride around Manhattan and professional golf lessons. Long Island Youth Mentoring's Executive Director, John Cragg, said that the auction committee chaired by Victor and Laura Scognamiglio has worked tirelessly to make the event a great success. He said: "Each year they strive to make the event bigger and more fun than prior years - this year will be no exception. This auction is Long Island Youth Mentoring's biggest 2006 fundraising event.
